Board Member Peter Stevens Believes in Giving Back
Long-time Shelburne resident and board member Peter Stevens has spent his life giving back by working with education-focused non-profits – and he doesn’t plan to stop. Initially invited into the Foundation by founder Sue Samoriski, Peter has played a vital role in the Mary Lyon Foundation’s success for nearly seven years. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Governance Committee.
Peter and his wife, Linn Bower, love the community in Shelburne. Peter firmly believes we are responsible for doing what we can to “improve the quality of life for all.” He stands behind the Foundation’s mission to help children learn, succeed, and thrive and he contributes to its success every day.
What motivates Peter? It’s simple. He says, “I believe in giving back to the community where my wife and I choose to live.” This belief has been the heart of his volunteer work, and he feels immense gratitude for the community’s generosity in making a difference in the lives of students and teachers.
Peter spent much of his professional life in education. He taught high school and served as Head of School at two American international schools in Europe, just to name a few of his accolades. Peter has witnessed first-hand the importance of ensuring children and their educational environments are well supported and funded. He feels that “those of us who have time, skills, and resources should be enthusiastic about stepping up to help others who could benefit,” and he encourages others to volunteer if they can.
During his downtime, Peter enjoys the company of his wife, and together they travel and explore the beautiful hills and valleys of Shelburne, a place they wish to live forever.
Thank you, Peter, for your passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to the Mary Lyon Foundation. Your unwavering efforts make a significant difference in the children and schools in our community.
