Extending a Helping Hand: The Mary Lyon Foundation’s Impact on Families During Challenging Times
The Mary Lyon Foundation’s support and dedication to the community were critical for many families during the chaos and uncertainty of COVID-19. Kecelyn DeArmond, a parent whose children attend Hawlemont Elementary School, recalls how the Mary Lyon Foundation provided her family with crucial aid and renewed hope during those particularly challenging times.
Coping with Homeschooling and Financial Hardships
When the pandemic forced schools to close their doors, Kecelyn’s husband had to take on homeschooling their children while she continued to work. With only one source of income supporting the family, their finances became tight, and they searched for resources to help them through the unimaginable disruption.
Thankfully, Hawlemont Elementary School announced the Mary Lyon Foundation would offer aid to those in need. Twice a month, the Foundation extended a helping hand by delivering essential groceries to families facing hardships, providing much-needed relief.
Pillars of Support
According to Kecelyn, the Foundation was a critical pillar of support during this unprecedented time.
“Kristen is an amazing person who was always there for my family. After I gave birth to my son, the Mary Lyon Foundation provided us with necessities such as diapers, wipes, books, and more. I am always thankful for everything they have done to help us,” said Kecelyn.
Through fostering community support and investing in services that promote positive educational outcomes, the Foundation has provided vital assistance and has played a crucial role in nurturing her children’s success.
From offering groceries to assisting with baby essentials, the Mary Lyon Foundation serves the community by providing customized resources to families like Kecelyn’s to ensure all people, despite their life circumstances, can learn, succeed, and thrive.
