Mary Lyon Foundation Updates
MA Association of Student Council’s State Conference
The Mary Lyon Foundation made a financial contribution to Mohawk Trail Regional School Student Council for three students to attend the MA Association of Student Council’s State Conference. Retired teacher Robert Mastorakis attended as a mentor and chaperone. MTRS Student Council President Landon Clark shares the impact of the experience on him as a student leader.
“This past week I had the opportunity to attend the Massachusetts Association of Student Council’s State Conference in Hyannis. I’ve been lucky enough to have attended this conference three times now and I couldn’t be more grateful for all it has given me. Over my three years participating in this event, and the smaller regional Student Council events, I’ve made a ton of friends across the state who have similar interests as me and enrich my life all year round even if I only get to connect with them in person at the event on the Cape. This year, as President of our council, I got to go in with a new perspective and really think about what I could bring back to my team to make ourselves better leaders. Throughout the workshops, the keynote speakers, and the bonding time with other schools I was able to get the ball rolling on some exciting ideas for this Spring and for next year as well. The State Board, as always, put on a really inspiring display of what high school leaders can look like and I am very excited to return next year!”
