Mary Lyon Foundation & Greenfield Savings Bank Helping Provide Holiday Gifts
While most people feel excitement and eagerness for the holidays to return each year, families who struggle financially may not have the resources to purchase gifts for their loved ones.
As yet another example of the Mary Lyon Foundation’s vision to help students learn, succeed, and inevitably thrive, this past November, we partnered with Greenfield Savings Bank to bring the children of the Mohawk Trail Regional School District a little holiday spirit.
Through our newly established Adopt-a-Family Program, we set up a holiday tree in the lobby of Greenfield Savings Bank in Shelburne Falls. Then we decorated it with paper ornaments specifying the needs and wishes of children in our district.
Community members were able to “adopt” a family throughout the holiday season by removing tags from the tree and purchasing gifts for the children. The Foundation’s trustees, volunteers, and staff delivered the gifts to families. Thanks to our community’s generosity, 34 children in the district received presents to unwrap during the holiday season. Yet they received much more than presents. The youngsters also enjoyed the gifts of joy, kindness, and generosity—happy memories that will last a lifetime.
This program would not have been successful without the partnership and support of the exceptional staff at the bank and within the district. Staff in all six schools regularly work with the Foundation to identify the needs of children and families. This partnership provides yet another opportunity for the Foundation to make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
We are looking forward to supporting the Adopt-a-Family initiative again during the 2022 holiday season. Make sure to look for our tree in the Shelburne Falls branch of Greenfield Savings Bank come November!
