Mary Lyon Foundation Updates
Warming Up the Community This Winter
The Mary Lyon Foundation is delighted to provide winter gear to our children and help families with extra costs associated with the cold weather. Together with local newspapers and service organizations, our Warm the Children program helps children access much-needed winter clothing and footwear. The Greenfield Recorder is our area sponsor, raising and distributing funds in Franklin County and the North Quabbin region.
In 2021, the Foundation’s support of the local program enabled 150 children in our community to receive $80 Target gift cards to purchase new winter clothing. We’re eager to partner with The Greenfield Recorder again this year to continue to provide families with the resources needed to stay warm this winter.
Also, in the winter of 2021, we established the Adopt-a-Family Program and set up a holiday tree in the lobby of Greenfield Savings Bank in Shelburne Falls. We decorated it with paper ornaments that specified the needs and wishes of children in the Mohawk Trail Regional School District. Community members were able to “adopt” a family throughout the holiday season by removing tags from the tree and purchasing gifts for children. The Foundation’s trustees, volunteers, and staff delivered the gifts to families.
Thanks to our community’s generosity, last year 34 children in the district received presents to unwrap. We look forward to supporting the Adopt-a-Family initiative again during the 2022 holiday season. Make sure to look for our tree in the Shelburne Falls branch of Greenfield Savings Bank come November!
