Empowering Young Women Through our Period Poverty Program
The Mary Lyon Foundation empowers young women by providing free feminine hygiene products to help them feel comfortable succeeding in the classroom and life. The Period Poverty Program supports elementary, middle, and high school students by making period products available at no cost. Students are encouraged to quickly and discreetly stop by the Mary Lyon office, any school bathroom, or the nurse’s office. They may also request home delivery of period products. Mary Lyon was a strong advocate for women’s empowerment, and we’re delighted to offer this resource to young students in need.
Period poverty is a global issue. For that reason, many young women in low-income households do not have a reliable source of feminine hygiene products and, due to their lack of resources, are often forced to stay home from school. Since 2022, we have been proud to offer different sizes of pads, tampons, and panty liners to meet various needs, allowing young women to go about their school days uninterrupted.
The outside of the feminine hygiene product bags features motivational quotes such as “When women support each other, incredible things can happen,” so the products remind young women to push through adversity and work towards completing their goals.
The Mary Lyon Foundation is proud to offer a program that unifies and empowers young women through care and support. The Period Poverty Program is just one small yet mighty piece of the puzzle that showcases the Foundation’s dedication to providing impactful programs and resources.
