Development Specialist:

The Mary Lyon Foundation seeks a dynamic Development Specialist to join our team and support our mission. We are a non-profit organization located in Shelburne Falls, MA. The Foundation supports the families, students, and educators of the Mohawk Trail and Hawlemont School Districts and beyond.

The Development Specialist will oversee fundraising efforts, develop strategies to increase revenue through individual and corporate donations, grants, and sponsorships, and work with the Executive Director to meet fundraising goals. The successful candidate will have experience in nonprofit fundraising and a passion for ensuring rural communities have the resources needed so that children can learn, succeed, and thrive.

The Development Specialist Position is a 20—to 30-hour-a-week with paid time off and retirement contributions. Office hours are flexible to meet the organization’s ever-changing needs. Availability on nights and occasional weekends is required.  A minimum bachelor’s degree is required, as is three or more years of experience and a successful track record in a related position. The successful candidate must be highly organized, a self-starter, a problem solver, and have the utmost integrity. The hourly rate is contingent on experience and ranges from $35.00 to $45.00 an hour.  Interested individuals should submit their resume or CV to [email protected].

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Make seven inquiry calls weekly to increase donor participation.
  2. Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan with the campaign committee to increase revenue and achieve fundraising goals.
  3. Attend weekly campaign committee meetings on Mondays at 1:00 p.m.
  4. Respond to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information, secure donor gifts, and provide donors with relevant materials.
  5. Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to increase donations from individual donors, businesses, and other funding organizations.
  6. Oversee the implementation of Little Green Light (donor software) to ensure the accuracy of all gifts, reporting, and effective communication with donors.
  7. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate promotional and fundraising activities and events as assigned.
  8. Provide financial stewardship and reporting to donors; ensure appropriate expenditure of donor funds.
  9. Work with the ED and marketing team to communicate our mission and vision to target audiences.
  10. Participate in and assist with special events, coordinate event-day logistics as needed, and meet face-to-face with donors and prospects when appropriate.
  11. Organize and coordinate the activities of volunteers and committees/boards engaged in fundraising activities, as appropriate.
  12. Attend seven monthly board meetings on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  13. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the ED.
